Warming Homes and Hearts Since 1986
From the beginning, our mission has been rooted in supporting seniors in need, ensuring they have the warmth and comfort they deserve, especially during the colder months.
In the late 1970s, a group of volunteers from the Washington County Community Action Organization established the Wood Co-Op, recognizing the need for a reliable source of firewood for vulnerable seniors.
Building on this foundation, Carl Crain and other committed volunteers launched the Washington County Wood Cutters, Inc. in 1986 with a shared passion for helping seniors. That same year, the organization obtained non-profit status and became an independent entity dedicated to this vital cause.
By 1993, the organization grew to include as many as 50 volunteer woodcutters, processing and delivering firewood to over 90 households each year. While our numbers have changed over time, our commitment has not. Today, 11 dedicated volunteers continue this important work, providing firewood to over 40 households annually.
Your support helps us continue our mission of serving seniors in need. To find out how you can contribute, please contact us directly.
